Central Arkansas Regional Solid Waste Management District
The Arkansas State Legislature in 1971 recognized the need for and created the Solid Waste Management Act (Act 237, codified as A.C.A. §8060291 et seq.) with the stated purpose to protect the public health and welfare, prevent the spread of disease and creation of nuisances, conserve natural resources, and enhance the beauty and quality of the environment.

The counties that make up the Central Arkansas Regional Solid Waste Management District are Lonoke, Monroe and Prairie Counties. These counties are best described as rural, agricultural based communities. The Solid Waste Districts are partners in Solid Waste Management with the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality.

State law has played a major role in helping the District take an integrated approach to solid waste management. Though the establishment of county recycling programs and waste tire disposal facilities, state law has mandated that the Districts take an active role in the establishment and coordination of MSW management within their respective borders.

Education Programs
The Central Arkansas RSWM District provides educational services and programs on environmental education issues – including solid waste management, recycling, composting, litter prevention and control, and household hazardous waste.

Our programs are developed to provide you with the information necessary to make informed decisions regarding our environment and can be presented to any age group.
Programs can be customized to fit benchmarks in the classroom.
If the program is to be for a “Teacher’s Workshop” (for about 30 participants) and will be through lunch, we can provide a “waste-free lunch”.

What we will need from you is: amount of time, number of people attending, age of those participating and desired subjects. We can do school wide, by grade and by class programs.
Household Hazardous Waste
The average home has dozens of chemicals that can pose a health hazard to you, your family and to the natural environment, if not managed responsibly. Improper disposal of these wastes can cause harm to humans, plants, animals, soils and ground water. For more information please visit the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality.

Solid Waste Management Compliance
Municipal solid waste is what is commonly thought of as trash or garbage. Because of the growth in the amount of materials thrown away, many communities across Arkansas and the nation have developed diverse management practices in handling trash, commonly referred to as integrated solid waste management.
Below are policies and procedures necessary to properly manage the solid waste in our district.
